Gingersnap Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar, plus more
  • 3/4 cup shortening (or margarine), softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups unsifted Pillsbury flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Cream sugar and shortening. Beat in egg and molasses. Stir in remaining ingredients until well mixed. If desired, chill dough for easier handling. Shape dough into 1 inch balls; roll balls in sugar. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. Bake 9-12 minutes or until edges are set. Makes about 48 cookies.
